I recently joined theblu.com, which is an interactive social network. You get to explore a virtual ocean and collect fish from all over the world. The artwork and animation is beautiful, as is the soundtrack. Since the project is in beta, membership is by invite only. However, keep your eyes open for promotional codes – I got mine through Mashable.

‘The Blu is a global mission to create the ocean on the web – an interactive world where every species and habitat is a unique work of art created by digital artists and developers around the world, as a social online experience.’

The most interesting thing to me about theblu.com is that you can sign up to be a maker. Once you have applied and been accepted you can download the 3d object files and make variations of existing fish in the ocean. As the project is still in beta, the scope for imagination is a bit limited, but future releases promise more creative fredom and the possibility to create mythical and imaginary sea animals.
